Pigment spots

Brown spots in the face or on the back of the hands are often considered unpleasant from an aesthetic point of view. The phenomenon ranges from so-called senile freckles (lentigo senilis) and senile warts (seborrhoic keratosis) to more or less pigmented liver spots (naevus cell naevi) which can be flat or raised.

Safe differentiation of the spots, which require different treatments, can be made only by a dermatologist using a reflected-light microscope.

Depending on the diagnosis made, the range of therapies includes flashbulb (IPL), laser, and specialised surgery.
